Total investment of 4.9 billion euros! Spain will promote 650 green hydrogen projects

2024-02-22

Spanish gas infrastructure operator Enagas plans to invest 4.9 billion euros by 2030 to boost the development of 650 hydrogen projects.

65% of the 650 hydrogen projects will be used for production, 20% for consumption and the remaining 15% for sale, all of which will then be connected to the future H2Med corridor.

Arturo Gonzalo, CEO of Enagas, the operator of Spain's gas grid, predicts that Spain will be able to produce about 2.5 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030, far exceeding its expected domestic consumption. This huge production capacity means that Spain will have a lot of hydrogen to export, making it a leading exporter of green hydrogen to Europe.

At the same time, Spain plans to build an H2Med pipeline network, which will further strengthen its position in the European green hydrogen market. That is why Spain is developing its hydrogen pipeline and storage infrastructure and investing €4.9 billion in 650 hydrogen projects.
